Being on Top in Search Engines

When you are surfing the internet or trying to find something on the web, you just simply type a word in the textbox of Google.com and click search. In just a millisecond, a list of related websites is displayed relevant to the thing you are searching for. You just click on the links found at the top of the page because you feel that these links have greater relevance of your search than the ones who are found at the bottom or at the next page of Google’s results. Little did you know that the results produced by Google is ranked using PageRank. The more relevant pages a website has, the greater its chance to top the list of the Search Engine Result page or SERP.

PageRank is a term used by Google’s view on the importance of a certain page of a website. It is not only used by Google alone but also to other major search engines today like Yahoo and MSN. Each of these search engines has their own searching algorithms but relatively they have similarities in ranking websites in the World Wide Web. PageRank makes use of a website’s links, more specifically the inbound links which are the links of a website found on other websites. Websites that are found on the top of search engine results page are most likely the ones who have high PageRanks.

Search engines today don’t just base a website’s importance only on PageRank but also on the quantity of users or visitors a website is receiving every day. User traffic on the web has been given high consideration by search engines. The more popular a website is, the higher its rank on the search results page. Also, older websites who are still online for a very long time have a higher chance to be on top. Younger websites are still blooming and are still on the competition for gaining higher ranks in major search engines. The overall web design of a website also contributes to its PageRank.

In the field of marketing, websites owned by business companies develop a new brand of web development technique called Search Engine Optimization. It specializes on optimizing a website’s overall “attractiveness” to major search engines particularly Google. Through this, a company’s online website will attract more users, making them customers in the long run, and creating a more competitive marketplace on the web.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

These past few days I have learned that website development cycle does not only concern about putting a website online and implement other necessary web developments. It also needs to be known in the web. A website must introduce itself to the world of powerful search engines like Google, MSN, and Yahoo.

A web developer's initiative to make a website more popular to the web and therefore, increasing user traffic to it and putting it in high ranks to search engines, is called Search Engine Optimization or SEO. Today this is not already new to the field of information technology more specifically to web design and development. This has been already implemented by business companies who had troubles in online marketing or e-commerce. Ever since search engine developers have started to put their search engines online, web ranking started to be the primary key for online business to gain market online.

When Google emerged to be the most widely used search engine, PageRank also became a competitition for online websites. PageRank is the basis used by Google for a website's rank in the World Wide Web. And through this, Search Engine Optimization has a solid foundation and strong basis for optimizing a website's rank in search engines. When an online website is ranked on top of a search engine's list, users will have greater chances to visit the website and buy products or click advertisements making the website a more visible center for business. In turn, making it more profitable to business companies more specifically to e-commerce business.

This field of web development must not be easily neglected. It is a great tool for creating a more productive online website where users thrive and enjoy visiting to it, buying products and services online.

Entrepreneur: Born or Made?

During our Entrepreneurship 101 class, we were asked to have a debate about whether an entrepreneur is born or made. I belong to the group whose stand is entrepreneurs are made. The group and I made nice moves to attack the other group. I was the prover of the arguments stated by my teammates and also I disproved other statements of the opposing team. Some interesting points that my group sited are: 1.) Entrepreneurs are born, they have the innate desire and drive to pursue entrepreneurship but, THEY NEED TO LEARN. 2.) That their pursuance and passion to go business, is NOT ENOUGH, that they gotta have the knowledge, skills, and training 3.) That these knowledge, skills, and training are obtained from higher education, experiences and other ways in which they can learn.
It has always been a debatable statement of whether an entrepreneur is born or made. But for me, I must say that it is made. Yes, i agree that an entrepreneur gotta have that innate desire or passion to venture into business, but is not the desire that makes him an entrepreneur but the things that made him an entrepreneur like self-experiences and education. These things serve as the molding tools to create a special, well-equipped, confident entrepreneur that will venture out in this competitive, corporate-driven world.

Nelson’s comeback in Game 1 Finals

Orlando Magic’s head coach Stan Van Gundy was not really impressed on Jameer Nelson’s performance in Game 1 of the NBA finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. Nelson scored only 6 from 3-of-9 field goal attempts. He played well in the second quarter but he struggled later in the second half of the game. Nelson made nice assists to Gortat’s dunk and Lewis’s 3-point shot. He also scored a jumper and fed Courtney Lee for a driving layup, giving the Magic a 33-28 lead in the second quarter.
The whole Magic team doesn’t have much to say about Nelson. He greatly contributed during their 2-0 victory against the Lakers during the season. He averaged 27.5 points in the two games. He’s one of the key players added to Magic’s lineup. Until he suffered a shoulder injury, Alston was grabbed by the Magic closely before the playoffs have started. Weeks later after recovering from a surgery, Nelson has already been playing with the team during practice sessions in the playoffs. The team’s management has done a great job in Nelson’s fast recovery. Their overall effort and workout for him somehow paid off since he was expected to recover fully in August but now it was earlier from the expected date.
Nelson’s performance in game 1 did not make Stan van Gundy think negatively of his team. He is still determined that they will make it to the finals. The LA Lakers scored 100-75 against the Orlando Magic in game 1 giving them a 1-0 lead in the finals series.

The Last Magical Shot of LeBron

Game 2 of the Eastern Semi-finals game at Cleveland - it's 4th quarter and the Magic leads with a score of 95-93. With only a second to go before the game ends and the Cavs has the possession of the ball. Inbound pass to LebRon James with the flying hand of Hedo Turkuglo and Rashard Lewis toward him. LebRon is positioned at the middle 3-point lane, determined to take a game-breaking 3-point shot. He puts up the shot at the buzzer and made it.

The whole Quicken Loans Arena has gone loud with fans cheering for 96-95 victory of the Cleveland Cavaliers over the Orlando Magic. The Cavs and Magic have tied 1-1 in the playoffs series. The Cavs had a hard time defending their homecourt in a series of two games against the Magic. The whole team did not expect of the many struggles they encountered in the court. It was a miracle shot for the Cavs. James' 3-point clutch was indeed a game-breaking shot. The Magic was confident to win the game with only a second to go. But they forgot to tightly defend the superstar.

Now the Magic will be defending their homecourt at Amway Arena in Game 3 of the Eastern Semi-finals. But the Cavs are more focused after that morale-boosting Game 2. Now, who will be bringing the name of the Eastern Conference in the NBA 2009 Finals?

Nuggets @ Lakers

The L.A. Lakers just successfully defended their home court from the raging Denver Nuggets with the score 105-103. That was a close fight game. Carmelo scored a career-high 39 points while Kobe with 40 points. The Nuggets did an outstanding team play every minute of the semi-final game. Billups did play-safe assists to his teammates. Inside scoring of the Nuggets was lead by Martin and Nene. Both were outstanding in the game. Carmelo Anthony made many 3-point shots as wells graceful dunks and layups to the hoop but Kobe Bryant countered it driving layups, dunks and jump shots. The Lakers did their best in "D" and also in the offensive plays. Pau Gasol contributed also to the overall scoring in the paint. Nevertheless, the Denver Nuggets still have a greater chance to win the 2009 NBA Finals.

Post-Valentine's Day

24-hours after Cupid's day, I'm on my way to a friend's birthday party. Old friends I've met and we're enjoying the night filled with Mojitos Tequila, Red Horse Beer, Bailey's and some Emperador Brandy. Whew! I say, that night really made us drunk! That Mojitos Tequila kept the laughing and humor going the whole night. I had my tummy ready for that drinking session. I ate much during the party. We then played NBA 2k9 on XBOX 360 (wow! that was my first time to put my hands on that sweet XBOX 360 gamepad :) ). I let all my worries freed that time, except for one thing - my midterm exam in entrep 101. But nevertheless, I still got a special exam. Saved! (I got a hangover actually).

More blessings to my friend, Kareen, who was the birthday girl that day. :)

Allegations to Chris Brown?

I was watching TV yesterday when a local news announced something that is very surprising. It says that an R&B superstar was accused of criminal offense, and that is assault. I cannot believe that the 19-year-old, hip-hop, R&B superstar, Chris brown was the one being reported in the news. It was said that Chris surrendered himself to the police and after being interviewed, he was released for $50,000 bond. Could that be possible? This young superstar has never been seen with bad image. He has been the ultimate teen pop icon with a very positive image. No reports about him being accused of some criminal offenses. But now, it was reported that he assaulted a woman. A woman unidentified but the news said that it was his R&B star girlfriend, Rihanna. Well, Rihanna's public speaker said that the young woman was not involved in the incident. Further reports of this controversial issue will truly reveal the who's and what's of the story. But for sure, Chris brown's endorsements and reputation will be affected of this issue.
